Oklahoma ranks 50th in colorectal screening among both insured and uninsured residents. With the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that health insurance cover screening, a safe assumption is that the insured population is screening at a significantly higher rate than those who lack insurance. The Oklahoma City Community Foundation, through an iFund Access to Health Care grant, is providing financial support for HAU’s FluFIT project targeting low-income, uninsured individuals who have established medical homes at free/charitable clinics in Oklahoma County but are unable to participate in non-invasive colorectal screenings or screening colonoscopies due to the lack of clinic or community resources.
The FluFIT campaign will run September 2018 – February 2019, with a goal of FIT testing 200 individuals and providing diagnostic tests, surgeries and treatment for individuals whose FIT tests are positive for possible colorectal cancer.
